I feel the earth move under......
With a great break in the colder temperatures, the contractors are making headway on the new Rope Mill Road interchange on I 575. Pictured here is equipment working on the relocation of the current Rope Mill Road north of Riverwalk Parkway. The realignment provides the space necessary to have access lanes in addition to the on/off ramps. It also aligns Rope Mill Road with Woodstock Parkway at the existing intersection of Ridgewalk and Woodstock Parkways.
The interchange is long overdue and will relieve some of the current congestion of traffic just trying to get through Woodstock. A continuation of the planned parkway through Woodstock Knoll, the former Toll Brothers residential developement now owned by Ashton Woods, is needed to further aleviate the congestion of "through traffic". To make the vision of the Liveable Cities Initiative a safe pedestrian environment this is critical. The LCI program, which funded the current cityscapes improvements, envisions an environment where residents, businesses and services are available in a walkable small town atmosphere.

Police Jurisdiction
Recently the City Council voted to send another request to our County legislative delegation to request annexation of I-575 into the city thereby giving police jurisdiction to the city's police department. Do you agree? Is the patrolling of the interstate highway the pervue of a municipal police department? Will it reduce crime in our city? Is it just a way for the department to make "high profile" cases ie drug busts etc.? Should the jurisdiction of Towne Lake Parkway be resolved first. A traffic accident on Towne Lake Parkway under I-575 currently requires the Sheriffs Department to respond even though the properties along TLP are in the city limits. Should this be resolved before the question of jurisdiction on the interstate is addressed? Should the city force patrol the interstate at all or should they focus on the downtown area, our businesses and our residential neighborhoods. Let us know what you think.
